I do the same for the Women's Refuge which is near where my mum works back home. Every could of months I send a box home to my mum with all the soaps and unwanted stuff I bring home from hotels and they use them to make up welcome kits for women that need to come and stay so they can have a bath and use things like the sewing kits that I put in from the hotels to repair clothing that may have been damaged before they arrive.
I got a lovely card, via my mum, from the lady that runs the refuge and almost had me crying...
Such a worthwhile thing to do.

Now why am I not surprised that you would be involved in something like this ^
We use Delta for most trips back to the States as Atlanta is convenient to our corporate offices and also offers a great connection to our home. (Though I still want to try BA's service to Denver).
The director of the center I donate to told me that the men really appreciated having the Business Elite pouches I take back. Little things like razors and toothpaste/brush can make sure a big difference. During these harsh times this is probably something I should be talking to others about. We have people flying all the time and I'm sure that most of them get tossed. (edit: I mean the flight pouches, not the people!)
The last time I sent them back it was a shipment of 20 and I now have another stack upstairs...This thread has served as a reminder of something I need to pay more attention to.
So, other than going "ewww" about someone putting Cabin Crew in a position where they should and probably will say "No" I did gain a positive.

I'd ask. I don't think it's cheeky, provided it's framed in a question as opposed to demand form. The worst they can do is say no -don't ask at a critical time, but ask after all the service has been completed and the crew are a bit more relaxed.
If not, I'm sure there are some FTers who wouldn't mind sending you one from the heaps of the bloody things lying about.

I also gave the majority of the Palmiers (remember them) that I bought to the Salvation Army, the bloke said they were very grateful and that I was very kind.
I usually try and find someone who will take it, before I start buying it.

When travelling F I rather rely on the contents of the bag. There's enough good quality moisturizer, eye cream, face tonic, lip balm, etc. that for a trip of a few days I don't have to worry about taking any more - although I must say I preferred the previous Penhaligon's and Kiehl's products.
So when last year there was a problem with the bags and I only got a CW bag on the flight to NYC, it was a real pain in the rear. Because of some damage I'd done to my skin (don't ask - not an interesting story) I really needed a good quality moisturizer - something better than you could buy at the average cornerstore CVS pharmacy - so had to waste time trecking over to the Kiehl's store on 3rd or wherever it is the day I arrived in Manhattan. Boo!
Plus, I actually really like the Anya Hindmarsh bags and not just because they look smart. I actually took one with me on a subsequent trip (to MAD last weekend) for practical reasons. It was absolutely the perfect size and sturdiness for storing a full-size glass bottle of cologne. With the socks and eye mask stuffed around the bottle so that it fitted snugly inside, it felt (and turned out to be) very secure inside my checked baggage - although of course I kept it in the waterproof section of my suitcase with all the other possible sources of leakages.

Agreed.
There is a reason so much thought is put into the design and contents of those bags and it is not just so that they are tossed away. They serve as a great advertisement long after they have left the flight.
A nice gesture to those that fly in premier classes and a nice message of "Look what you're missing" to those that don't.
I'm still tempted by Air France over the silly little fact that they provide L'occitane which I happen to enjoy.

Good idea. I've got quite a few CW ones - do you think groups like that would be interested in CW as well as F ones (I don't have any F PJs) ?

That reminds me, the groundstaff in YUL used to take any hotel toiletries that we had to offer, and pass them on to a women's shelter. Not sure if they still do, Haven't been there for ages.

My 'worst one' award goes to the previous QF J one. It was hard, it was bulky, it was not waterproof (not that I'm too worried about that, but since you mentioned that aspect...), and the contents didn't even take up that much space in it.
Thankfully the new ones are much better. Same fabric (which I find boring, dark and "non-pretty", although some people might like them), but at least normal 'bag' shape and not too big.

I would just like to thank 'theaxe' who kindly sent me one of these, so I don't need to ask onboard. Much appreciated! ^
Now the matter of my first ClubWorld flight...! Only flown J on CX before, how does it compare?

I have found the female radiology students where I work (University of Washington Medical Centre Radiology) LOVED the goodies & case from CW when I flew in Feb. '09. I guess I am just a jaded, thick thick, Yank but I just have no use for the cases once I get home. Some of the lippy moisturizer shtuff is foine when I'm in my hotel but otherwise I save it for my friends at home who think it's really hot stuff to fly CW. Shee, status for people who haven't any!
& on that point, I've always managed to get a spare pair of jim jams for my friends + an amenity kit if there was one going, but I also prostrated meself before the CSD & promised I wouldn't go flogging it on ebay.

Our QF ones from last year were utterly useless for post flight use.
Awkward shape and size and only good for keeping nothing in.....scored 0/10 for me.

Same here. Both the F kit for Gent and J ones for both sexes from QF are so useless - there is not even a separate compartment or mesh net inside the hard case. Though the F kit for Ladies is a floral satin fabric cosmetic bag that is pretty to look at. The eyeshade inside is useless as it is made of pure white satin - does not block off light at all!
