Assistant Director, Pacific Recreation - Member Services andOperations

Primary Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Pacific Recreation, the AssistantDirector, Pacific Recreation - Member Services and Operations, isresponsible for providing leadership, independent judgement,management decisions and direction in the assigned program areasfor all University of the Pacific campuses: Day to day facilityoperations, Member Services, Guest-related functions, andScheduling of all facilities.

These focus areas align with Pacific Recreation's vision andmission to provide a wide range of programs and services to meetthe diverse needs of the University of the Pacific community,including Stockton Community, undergraduate students, graduatestudents, faculty, and staff.

Essential Functions:
Day-to-Day Facility Operations:

  • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of all PacificRecreation Facilities (Fitness Centers, Fields, Main Gym, JL Gym,and Pickleball/Padel Courts).
  • Submits workorders to Physical Plant to ensure the upkeep andcleanliness of Pacific Recreation’s Facilities.
  • Manage our Facilities’ calendar and prioritize reserving spacefor Recreation programs.
  • Serve as Pacific Recreation’s Facilities’ lead contact.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness toensure that all fitness equipment is working properly.
  • Maintain records associated with all areas.
  • Ensure policy and procedure compliance in each area.
  • Work with the Pacific Recreation team to ensure facilities arereserved for Recreation Programs.

Programming:

  • Lead programming efforts for membership appreciation, gainingnew members, equipment rentals, and fitness/wellnesseducation.
  • Lead and organize recreation student staff programming.Coordinate with managers to create and execute their eventideas.
  • Assist with Recreation Special events such as Rec Week, RecFest, Move. Play. Explore. Day., etc.
  • Assist with informal recreation offerings (Noonball, Open Rec,Pickleball/Padel, etc.)
  • Support other Recreation Prostaff in their programs.

Member Services:

  • Oversees all membership service sales, locker rentals,equipment rentals, facility tours, and marketing of memberservices.
  • Oversee all membership documents including waiver management,payroll deduction and others.
  • Oversee the cashier and other point of sale devices.
  • Primary contact and respondent for all member relations,concerns, and feedback.
  • Maintains our general equipment checkout inventory.
  • Coordinate member appreciation initiatives.
  • Coordinate all conduct and reinstatement meetings for theassigned areas, including exercising independent judgementdetermining outcome of all meetings determining participanteligibility and sanctions.
  • Serve as Pacific Recreation’s Fusion Lead and departmentspecialist.

Student and Staff Leadership:

  • Supervise and provide direction to over 25 student staff
  • Hire, train, and coach student employees, temp casualemployees, and volunteers.
  • Work with Recreation team to ensure all facilities, programs,and events are properly staffed.
  • Develop staff through workshops, training, and recognitionprograms.
  • Provide direction to the student interview team.

Engagement and Outreach:

  • Develop marketing strategies and work with marketing team toengage students, faculty, alumni, and staff.
  • Attract new members and retain current members.
  • Ensure that members are appropriately informed of upcomingevents, maintenance closures, facility improvements, etc.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to identify and establishopportunities for partnerships and sponsorships to enhance programofferings.


Budget Management:

  • Assist in managing budgets for Fitness Center Operations,Member Services, and Facilities.
  • Recommend decisions to ensure effective fiscal management.
  • Works with the Business Manager for Campus Life to ensure allUniversity policies are followed and ensure timely processing ofall fiscal documents.

Risk Management and Safety:

  • Assess, evaluate, and mitigate risk for program area throughdirect supervision and management; implement policies andprocedures; maintain accurate records; create various reports, andcontract agreements.
  • Coordinate CPR/First Aid/AED classes.
  • Oversee emergency action plans for all Pacific RecreationFacilities.

Assessment and Reporting:

  • Monitor, evaluate, and assess the effectiveness of eacharea.
  • Implement modifications based on feedback.

Other Duties Assigned:

  • Assist with other department events.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as directed by theExecutive Director, Campus Life.
  • Participates in Division of Student Life events asrequested.
  • Represents Pacific Recreation while working with all StudentLife and Campus partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social science, public health, highereducation, sports administration, recreation, exercise science orrelated field.
  • Two (2) years of progressive experience in CollegiateRecreation in these areas: Facilities, Membership Services and/orOperations.
  • One (1) year of proven ability to lead and supervise staff,supervision or leadership of collegiate recreation programs,services and/or facilities.
  • One (1) year of demonstrated progressive responsible facilitymanagement experience within campus recreation or equivalentexperience in another recreational setting.
  • Standard CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification (to be obtainedwithin three (3) months of employment).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in student personnel, higher education, sportsadministration, recreation, exercise science, or relatedfield.
  • Experience with Innosoft Fusion membership management softwareand Connect2Concepts Facilities Management software.
  • Strong knowledge of program development programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in student recreation centers, studentactivities, student life or student development.
  • Involvement in professional societies and organizations.
  • Knowledge of personnel management and budgeting.
  • Ability to direct management goals, to facilitate change andcreate innovative programs.
  • Interpersonal skills that facilitate collaborative andcooperative environments.
  • Consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-makingabilities.
  • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully withdiverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote andenhance diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diversebackgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity,and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practicesand knowledge in their work.

Requires moderate periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wristmotion while using computer keyboard and phone. Work requiresphysical ability to stand and walk around for moderate periods oftime. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed both in a standard office and gym andsports environments. May require work performed on non-standardbusiness times both on weekends and evenings.

Valid driver’s license required. Incumbent must also be able tomeet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive forUniversity business. The University and its insurance carrierreserve the right to exclude applicants based on their drivingrecord.

Hiring Range: $68,348.80 per year. We consider factors suchas, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position,candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market andorganizational considerations when extending an offer.
