The cap set problem generally asks how large can a subset of the cartesian product of n number of copies of the factor group Z/pZ, the group of integers under addition determined by the subgroup of integers which are multiples of prime p or cosets of this subgroup written in the form a + pZ where a is an integer, be and contain no arithmetic progressions. This well known problem in combinatorics particularly focuses on p=3. An arithmetic progression in this context could look like a set of three points {x,y,z} in (Z/3Z)^n such that x+z=2y. The cap set would be the largest subset A of (Z/3Z)^n that contains no three-term arithmetic progression, i.e., there are no three distinct elements x, y, z in A that satisfy the equation x+z=2y. FunSearch is an architecture of Google's DeepMind which pairs together various pretrained Large Language Models (LLMs) to provide creative solutions for problems in mathematics and computer science in the form of programming languages such as Python and evaluating the results of each through many iterations in order to avoid hallucinations and incorrect information. This process can result in new knowledge and novel programs. Recently, FunSearch has been used to solve the cap set problem. The LLM employed for the task was Codey, the progeny of Google's PaLM 2. A incomplete Python script detailing the cap set problem was used to prompt Codey to fill in the missing code blocks needed to solve the problem. What an amazing moment this is. I know Kishwaukee is the best place for students to start honing their skills formally. They will help anyone get started in achieving their goals. What you learn there will be remembered for years to come. I know because even to this day, I fondly recall those early years practicing my English/Writing skills at Kish, learning about citations and different writing styles, e.g., MLA and APA. Kishwaukee is really great at getting students started on their academic journeys no matter where they find themselves in life. Now, I am writing technical papers in IEEE both academically and for enterprise computing, and I have the teachers at Kish to thank for helping to inspire and motivate me. I remember my English 103 professor challenging us to use a colon (:) in one of our papers correctly since her students had yet to do so. I accepted that challenge and succeeded. I still remember her proudly showcasing my paper to the class. It is moments like this and the one shared here that help produce memories which will continue to inspire us for many years to come. I love hearing about student/faculty success stories.

Macias, Ph.D., graduated from SIU-C with a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management.In 2023, I, Cruz Macias, graduated from EKU with an MSc in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics.I hope our children won't feel pressured to pursue higher education. 😅👨🎓 👩🎓
