Since Malignant is playing on HBOMAX through October 10, I'm saving it to watch for the Challenge. I'm sure it will fit one of those days' themes.

My subscription to Shudder reupped for the year last week, so Im set in that regard. I also subscribe to the Classic Horror Movies channel on YouTube. Watched The Invisible Ghost on there just last night. Very good Bela movie.

My letterboxd is --> https://letterboxd.com/mghaynes/
List for this year over on letterboxd is --> 17th Annual DVDTalk October Horror Movie Challenge (2021)
I post mostly stream of consciousness ramblings rather than fully structured reviews there.
Really looking forward as this Summer has had a lot of stress both positive and negative.

Yeah, I don't like hearing that. Pretty messed up behavior. Thanks for the info.

But yeah not trying to suck any of the fun out of the OHMC, it's still enjoyable to watch.
Says the guy that bought two versions of part II. ;) Yeah, I did too.
The latter I wasn't aware of but it isn't surprising. I just remember originally receiving a BD-R, a warped cover that looked like it had baked in the sun for weeks and a wadded up poster due to piss-poor packaging. Of course after several complaints they finally made good with an actual pressed Blu-ray, and I think that was right around the time of the Shudder announcement.
I'd also be lying if I said I wouldn't be buying part III (supposedly the last) because the completist in me always wins.

Just updated the list to include the new Asian Buffet of Terrors pick...
Battle Royale (2000)
Was looking for a good excuse to break open my Arrow UHD set and this would be it. It's still available.

I know, I am fighting the urge on this one but may give in as well. The creatives who actually make the doc are fine but that slimy CEO...

I'll also be the guy to say I really didn't care for In Search of Darkness too much. Its focus was decidedly mainstream, and it was all extremely surface level. I was very disappointed.
It almost had a vibe of the old Chris Farley Show sketch from SNL. It's like they just show a bunch of familiar films and say, "Remember this one from the 80s? Yeah, that was cool."
I haven't seen the sequel yet. I'd be open to it but not in a big hurry.

I found this courtesy of Dinosaur Dracula. Would a vintage horror awards show count as a documentary?

This is pretty cool. I think I'll watch this in October. With a wildcard if it doesn't fit any other criteria.

My favorite. Yeah, just misses the mark on 5.

I don't see why not. Pretty sure people have counted the Fango Chainsaw Awards in the past. Also think I've seen that, but only have a vague recollection of somebody applying prosthetic effects to Linnea Quigley.

For dvd sets, I always counted by disc. For blu's I decided that 20-23 trailers a night was about right or you do two or three sections (the rough equivalent of what would fit on a dvd), depending on their size, a night. I think that was for the some other Challenge, though, I checked and I haven't done trailers for this Challenge for at least couple of years (too much a pain in the ass probably).

I'm pretty sure I've asked in a previous year, but I'll see if there are any new recommendations. Every year, I try to line up 6-7 horror movies to watch with my wife. She tends to like some of the lighter fare and especially those with a group of kids teaming up against something. Some that she enjoyed the most:
Monster Squad, The Lost Boys, The Halloween Tree, Silver Bullet
Conversely she also enjoys thrillers and serial killer stories that are more deliberate and less gory like:
Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, Seven - This was almost too far for her tastes
Any recommendations to add to the list this year?

Manhunter for serial killers sounds like the perfect movie for her, if she hasn't seen it already.

Actually we did. I like it more than she did lol. She greatly prefers Silence so we are probably going to watch Clarice. Oh, she also enjoys some of the old Are You Afraid of the Dark.
