An update is rolling out the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 4K and the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 8K. The latter launched in October 2024, and both models were last updated in December.

The release notes for firmware version 2.5.0 state that the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 4K gets various bug fixes and minor improvements; unfortunately, no further details are provided here. However, the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 8K gets a range of new features and enhancements.

These include support for Display Stream Compression (DSC) pass-through for 8K@60Hz for the PlayStation 5 Pro console (curr. $699 at Amazon). Plus, enhanced input source switching is said to reduce delay for LG TV users with a PlayStation 5. Other benefits of this update are support for 3D pass-through and support for 144Hz light syncing. Philips Hue has also fixed problems linked to the CEC power on/off and auto off features.

Firmware version 2.5.0 should be pushed automatically to the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 8K and the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box 4K. You can check if you have automatic updates enabled in the Philips Hue app under Settings > Software update.
