Everyone goes on about how paedophiles and what not get whats coming to them in prison from other prisoners etc

but do they really?

how would other prisoners know that joe smith was caught kiddy fiddling etc?

and even if they somehow do - do they actually have a nice shiv ready for them?

Prisoners have TV. TV news is known to report things that have gone on. Prisoners come from court with other prisoners. You'll find it's pretty easy to find someone out.

And yes, pool balls with socks, boiling water and all the rest awaits those who do things with the infirm and children.

Hence the availability of special wings where they can be housed away from other prisoners for their own safety.

to the be of my knowledge those sort of criminals are housed on a different wing to the violent criminals or those with the potential to cause harm. Most will ask for protective custody so will go on a soft wing although some who are not high profile will opt for a normal wing but lie about what they're in for.

At one or two places it was rumoured that certain guards would give indications to certain prisoners about certain new prisoners.... Then a few days later once they'd come out of the hospital bit they'd go on the secure wing. This is information someone who in theory knows about this kind of thing told me - how true it is I know not.

It's always common knowledge who the nonce's are. Word soon spreads.
They're not walways segregated as it depends on how full the prison is and it's often the case they are placed in a cell near the office and it'll have an extra secure door.

It's impossible for them to have no contact with normal prisoners anyways as you've got some "trusted" cons who are allowed in all areas to clean, pickup sPrisons question - Page 1 - The Lounge (16)t, etc and they will always have a go. Prisons question - Page 1 - The Lounge (17)

I knew a guy that was segregated in nick who'd shagged his underage sister Prisons question - Page 1 - The Lounge (18) (quite normal in his family as I understood it) and was in for being a sex case. He was beating up quite badly in the visiting area by a cleaner.
The disturbing thing was his sister came in to see him! Prisons question - Page 1 - The Lounge (19)
Even weirder she was the spitting image of him, but with tit*! Prisons question - Page 1 - The Lounge (20)

Makes the mind boggle.

(so I've heard)

Obviously I didn't "know" him, although I reckon his sister would be up for it though, but it's true what I say like.

I've seen a group of guys rip a reinforced doors off it's hinges. People power. Prisons question - Page 1 - The Lounge (28)

Most peados hurt themselves anyway butnot due to guilt or anything just the constant barrage or abuse 24/7.

Depends very much on the prison. The one I worked in had strict segregation- two wings of "normals" two of "Vulnerable Prisoners". According to an acquaintance who's still in the service, nonces are now referred to as "poor copers", which is a bit wet, frankly.

HMP Wakefield used to run a regime that mixed the two groups (maybe still does?), that was very successful by all accounts.

Having said all that, we had a murder perpetrated by two "normals" who'd been placed on the VP wing for their own protection having run up some unsustainable gambling debts. They stabbed a sex offender to death in his cell one evening. That was the only incident of this nature in the 4 years I was there.

Again, I'd say that it depends very much on the prison as regimes and security conditions vary wildly.

Prison i worked in was a Cat B local - anyone who came from court came our way.

We had sex offenders on normal location, who kept their gob shut and pretended to be burglars or something else. The middle class ones went for tax fraud or similar, and kept themselves to themselves.
Some knew the game, and would be ' on the numbers ' ie Rule 45 - segregation for own protection.
Initially in our place, they set up a vulnerable person wing. All sex offenders, debtors, vulnerable prisoners went on there. Eventually, they realised the wing didn't work, as it was never full, so they banged all the VPs up with the heroin detox wing. Kept them locked down half the time, and only associating with other VPs. A couple were proud of what they did - would tell anyone who would listen they were rapists, they got filled in regularly, and taken to the seg.

There weren't that many major assaults on inmates during my 3 yrs there - several but not many with 600 male prisoners. A few were hospital jobs, but not many. A couple of pillowcase balaclava jobs with several offenders, one murder of a prisoner, one throat slit, but it wasn't as if there were scaldings or pool ball/sock/head meetings every night. A few got a slap, but no worse than a friday night in town.

I assume from your tone you have experience of working or being held in prison.

I would be delighted to hear your experiences, as I'm sure would everybody else.

For the avoidance of doubt, I found the place horrific, not down to conditions, but down to being separated from society. Anyone who finds the place bearable probably doesn't function in the way most normal people do.

I can only talk about what I saw in my time there.

So please share with us your experiences, it might add balance to the conversation- which can do no harm.
