Predicting What Each One Piece Season 2 Episode Will Be About Based On The Anime (2024)

Summary

  • One Piece season 2 must include Loguetown, an important arc skipped in season 1.
  • Episodes 2 can combine Reverse Mountain and Whiskey Peak;
  • The final arc, Arabasta, needs at least three episodes to cover the war and key character moments.

Assuming One Piece season 2 will have eight episodes, the live-action show will have to carefully pick what to cover and what to leave out from the manga’s Arabasta saga. One Piece was not just Netflix’s best live-action anime adaptation but also the best anime adaptation to come out of Hollywood in general. The series delivered everything those familiar with the source material wanted to see while also presenting One Piece to new audiences. One Piece was renewed for season 2, although a release date has yet to be announced.

The Arabasta saga consists of 117 chapters in the manga or 74 anime episodes. In comparison, the East Blue saga, which Netflix’s One Piece season 1 covered, consists of 100 manga chapters. With more characters and storylines to fit in, One Piece season 2 will not have an easy job when it comes to pacing. Season 1 already had to cut important elements of the manga, including entire arcs and several characters. That said, the Arabasta saga can work in eight episodes.

One Piece Season 2, Episode 1 Will Cover Loguetown

One Piece season 1 skipped Loguetown

One Piece season 1 covered most of the East Blue saga, but it missed one important arc that must be revisited right at the start of season 2 – Loguetown. Set in the East Blue, Loguetown is the Straw Hat pirates’ final stop before entering the Grand Line. According to One Piece season 1 co-showrunner Steven Maeda, the show had to skip Loguetown due to budget and time constraints. Right after they defeated Arlong, Luffy’s crew set sail to the Grand Line and recreated the iconic barrel scene from the manga.

Fortunately, it has since been confirmed that One Piece live-action will cover Loguetown after all. Although it will be a bit odd to have Luffy and his crew making one more stop in the East Blue after announcing they were ready to enter the Grand Line at the end of season 1, there are just too many important moments that happen in Loguetown. Zoro meeting Tashigi, Smoker hunting Luffy for the first time, the alliance between Buggy and Alvida to kill the Straw Hat pirate, and flashbacks to Gold Roger’s execution are just some of the storylines tied to Loguetown.

One Piece Season 2, Episode 2 Will Cover Reverse Mountain & Whisky Peak

The Straw Hats must enter the Grand Line

Adapting Loguetown is important, but One Piece season 2’s true start will be when Luffy and his crew enter the Grand Line. The most treacherous stretch of ocean there is, One Piece’s Grand Line is where some of the world’s most dangerous pirates and islands can be found. From giants and sea monsters to cities that defy gravity, anything is possible in the Grand Line. Nami’s navigation skills will come in handy in episode 2 when the crew tries to enter the Grand Line through the Reverse Mountain. This is when Luffy meets Laboon, the whale.

This episode could also introduce Miss All Sunday and tease Crocodile’s role as the season’s main villain.

One Piece season 2 will have a lot to cover, meaning some arcs will have to be combined into one. A great way to do it would be to combine Reverse Mountain and Whisky Peak, the latter of which comes right after the former in the manga. One hour-long episode should be enough to introduce Princess Vivi as Miss Wednesday alongside Mr. 9, establish what the Baroque Works is, and have a couple of action sequences in Whisky Peak. This episode could also introduce "Miss All Sunday" and tease Crocodile’s role as the season’s main villain.

One Piece Season 2, Episode 3 Will Cover Little Garden

Little Garden will have giants and the Baroque Works

Assuming One Piece season 2, episode 2 will be a plot-heavy episode full of exposition regarding Vivi’s past and the Baroque Works’ influence over the Kingdom of Arabasta, episode 3 could be a more standalone adventure. Although considered a “skippable” arc by some One Piece fans, Little Garden is an important part of the story and sets up elements that will be important several chapters later. Luffy’s crew, which now includes Princess Vivi, arrive at an island where two giants are fighting non-stop. However, the Straw Hats soon realize the giants aren’t the biggest threat there.

One Piece Season 2’s New Straw Hat Pirates Create 3 Major Challenges For The Netflix Show

Two major One Piece characters are set to make their live-action debut in season 2 of the Netflix show, but getting them right will not be easy.

Little Garden could give Netflix’s One Piece one of its most unique episodes yet. While the show has faithfully captured the tone of the anime in season, it has yet to bring the more fantastical elements of One Piece’s world into live-action. Having two giants fighting each other in live-action is not easy, especially for a TV show. If One Piece season 2 nails Little Garden both in terms of visuals and pacing, the show will have proved it can do everything else that happens in the source material.

One Piece Season 2, Episodes 4-5 Will Cover Drum Island

Chopper’s origin story will lead to some emotional scenes

Whereas some One Piece arcs can be combined into one for the live-action show, others are just too important to be limited to just one episode. This included Drum Island, which is when One Piece introduces Tony Tony Chopper. After Nami falls sick with a mysterious disease, the Straw Hats arrive at Drum Island looking for any medical help they can get. There, they discover the country is suffering at the hands of Wapol, a monarch who ate the Baku Baku no Mi. Dr. Kureha, the island’s only doctor, accepts helping Nami.

Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura changes One Piece's canon by having Robin as part of the crew instead of Vivi when they meet Chopper.

From the battle against Wapol’s forces to Chopper’s origin story, Drum Island is too big of an arc not to be split into two episodes. To put things in perspective, Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura, an anime movie that covers this same arc, has a 113-minute runtime. Chopper is one of the most iconic One Piece characters, and the live-action show must get his origin right. Episode 4 could be more focused on flashbacks regarding Chopper, whereas episode 5 can see the battle for the island.

One Piece Season 2, Episodes 6-8 Will Cover Arabasta

The war for Arabasta needs at least three episodes

Predicting What Each One Piece Season 2 Episode Will Be About Based On The Anime (4)

Although One Piece’s second saga is called “the Arabasta saga,” it is only in the final arc of this segment that the Straw Hats arrive in the Kingdom of Arabasta. A lot of things happen in One Piece’s Arabasta arc, which sees Vivi trying to reclaim her kingdom after Crocodile successfully played both sides of a civil war to take over the country. The Arabasta arc should be different from anything Netflix’s One Piece has done so far, from the setting to the scope of the episodes. This is One Piece’s first war and can’t be resolved in one or two episodes.

One Piece season 2 will need a great actor for the role of the pirate hunter Smoker, with plenty of great options ranging from comedians to wrestlers.

The Straw Hats’ journey to arrive in Arabasta and infiltrate the country can make for an entire episode. That is not to mention the introduction of Portgas D. Ace, Luffy’s brother, who has a brief but meaningful role in this arc before becoming a massively important character later in the story. It would be strange to have both of Luffy’s fights against Crocodile in the same episode, which is why One Piece season 2 should reserve at least three episodes to tackle the Arabasta arc.
