Quiet Tonight - FayeHunter - One Piece (Anime & Manga) [Archive of Our Own] (2024)

The ship is quiet tonight. The ocean is quiet tonight, soft lapping waves and the pitter patter of rain against the Sunny a faint echo in the air. It’s unusual for it to be this quiet, free of the usual snores and rustling that comes with sleeping in the men’s bunks. At least free of it, if you’re not Usopp, listening to Sanji’s snoring in Usopp’s ear, the soft rise and fall of it keeping him just on the brink of wakefulness and sleep. It’s a comforting rhythm at least, keeping his mind off the storm outside, keeps him from wondering where Zoro is, creep of the shadowed moon in the window reminding Usopp that he should be coming back from watch anytime now. He’s cold without Zoro’s heat, Sanji’s tight hold only doing so much to keep him comforted tonight.

Usopp’s staring up at the ceiling of the bunk, running his fingers over the soft bit of Sanji’s stomach that’s exposed from where his shirt has ridden up. Sanji’s snoring lightly next to him, soft puffs of air against Usopp’s skin. He’s clinging to Usopp, fingers tight in his shirt, legs wrapped around his. It’s a warm comfort, the press of his long limbs to Usopp’s body, the grip he has on him. It’s not his fault that the first crack of thunder woke Usopp up, thoughts of Zoro alone in the crow’s nest on watch filling his mind as the sounds of rain gets louder now, breaking the silence. It’s keeping him up, waiting for Zoro to come back, warm him up and fill the empty space in the bed next to him. The thunder has faded, nothing but soft stuttering rain beating at the side of the ship now, choppy waves against the wood as well.

Usopp’s just closed his eyes, trying to will himself to sleep with the rocking of the Sunny when he hears the door to the bunkroom open. There’s the soft padding of footsteps, rustling of fabric as a coat is shed, thrown wherever it sees fit to land. Usopp cracks his eye open just a little, watching as Zoro moves around the room to shuck off his haramaki and pants, leaving them in a pile on the floor. He’s made it a few steps away before he huffs, stepping back to grab his things and hang them up in his locker. Usopp resists a snort, realizing that it must be Sanji’s influence that’s convincing Usopp to do that.

He watches through half lidded eyes as Zoro crosses the room, swinging up the other side of the bunk, shaking the structure back and forth as he makes his way up. Sanji stirs, burying his face further into Usopp’s neck as he breathes out a heavy, sleep filled sigh.

Zoro climbs into the bunk, settling down into his spot on Usopp’s right. The bed is just barely big enough to fit the three of them, despite how Franky modified it for them once they’d told the crew about their relationship. It swings a little violently as Zoro settles in, wedging himself in between Usopp and the side of the bed.

Usopp’s always in the middle. Between Zoro coming back late from watch and Sanji getting up early to make breakfast, it makes sense for them to bookend Usopp in sleep. The bunk is a tight squeeze though, with Zoro’s broad shoulders and Sanji’s long legs and Usopp’s octopus arms, but it wouldn’t be the same if they weren’t cramped together.

There’s something peaceful about being pressed so close together. About being aware of their presence next to him, able to sense where the others are even without his haki. After being alone for two years, trapped on an island by himself, aching for his crewmates, the idea of being away from his boyfriends even in bed makes something in Usopp’s chest tighten.

Sanji burrows into Usopp’s side, mumbling quietly in his sleep, listing off his shopping list. He presses himself even closer, face burrowed into Usopp’s neck, fingers rucking up his shirt from all of Sanji’s tossing. Zoro fits himself into the mess, throwing his own arm around Usopp’s chest, fingers brushing against Sanji’s side, getting comfortable as he settles in. He runs his fingers up and down Sanji’s forearm, brushing against Usopp’s skin as he does so, heat radiating off him. He wraps one leg around Usopp’s own, coming to rest his arm against Usopp’s chest, turning to press his face close.

“You’re still awake?” Zoro whispers into Usopp’s ear, pressing a kiss to his jaw at the end of the words. Usopp hums, curling into Zoro’s embrace. He’s a heavy presence, warm and comforting as Usopp curls into him. Sanji grips tighter at the shift, mumbling sleep heavy words about basil and pineapples under his breath, bangs fanned out around his face. Zoro nudges at Usopp, drawing his attention back to him, gray eye sharp in the shadowed light.

“Couldn’t sleep,” he murmurs back. Zoro just hums, pressing kisses to Usopp’s throat, gripping at Sanji’s arm. Usopp whimpers just a little, nuzzling into Zoro’s chest. It’s easy to lose himself in the warmth of Zoro, the sleepy quick kisses he presses to Usopp’s lips, his cheek, his forehead. Sanji stirs next to him, just as Usopp reaches up, fingers tangled into Zoro’s hair.

“No fair,” Sanji mumbles, one eye open, clinging to the last little bit of sleep. Zoro huffs, laughter dying on his lips as he leans over Usopp to press a kiss to Sanji’s lips. It squishes Usopp between them just a little, nose pressed to Zoro’s chest as they share a kiss. Sanji flops back against the bed, eyes drooping closed, dozing off easily with a smile on his lips.

Zoro pulls Usopp in closer to him, pressing a kiss to the top of his curls before letting his own eyelid droop, dozing off as quickly as he always does. Usopp huffs, cursing the fact that both his boyfriends find it so easy to fall asleep. He closes his own eyes, letting the sounds of their snores fill his ears, lulling himself into some symbiosis of sleep, swirling dreams of colors and ocean waves.

Sanji climbing out of the bunk wakes Usopp a few hours later. Zoro’s snoring in his ear now, mouth wide open, rolled slightly onto his back. Usopp’s hand falls against the empty sheets, grasping at them in Sanji’s absence. He whines, reaching blindly for Sanji as he hovers at the edge of the bunk. The sun has barely risen, soft orange and pinks painting Sanji in the morning glow. There’s hollows under his eyes, pillow creases on his cheeks.

“Come back,” Usopp mumbles. He’s only half awake, sleep still curling at the edge of his vision, eyelids heavy, limbs slow as he reaches out. He grabs hold of Sanji’s wrist, fingers wrapped around, squeezing tight.

“I have to get breakfast started,” Sanji says, leaning forward, pressing a kiss to Usopp’s lips, hand coming up to cup Usopp’s cheek. He rubs the skin there, pressing another kiss to his lips before he moves to press a kiss to Zoro’s. Zoro mumbles in his sleep, chasing Sanji’s lips as he pulls back.

“Just a little longer,” Usopp grumbles, knowing he’s lost the argument when Sanji chuckles, pressing a kiss to the tip of Usopp’s nose before he starts to climb down the bunk ladder. Usopp hums, eyes drooping closed as Zoro curls close to him. He throws an arm over Usopp’s chest, tugging him in tight. Usopp wraps one hand around Zoro’s arm, cuddling in closer.

Later, Usopp will stumble from the bunk and into the kitchen, collapsing at the table to bury his face into the tea Sanji’s made for him. Even later, Zoro will come into the kitchen after Usopp’s eaten, nursing his second cup of time while he watches Sanji wash dishes. He slides into the booth next to Usopp, head falling onto Usopp’s shoulder. He’s still snoring when Sanji slides the cup of matcha and plate of onigiri in front of Zoro. He drops a kiss to the top of Zoro’s head and then Usopp’s as he makes his way back to the dishes. Sanji hums quietly to himself, while Usopp nudges his boyfriend awake to try and get him to eat. Eventually Usopp will head to his workshop and Zoro will go off to train, leaving Sanji to do his usual meal prep. Sanji will find it way down into Usopp’s workshop sometime before lunch, to trade kisses and a midmorning cup of tea. Usopp will spend the afternoon fishing off the side of the Sunny, Zoro napping against his side until it’s time for dinner.

But for now, Usopp curls into Zoro’s space, listening to him snore softly, lulled to sleep by the rise and fall of his chest, heavy warmth encircling him as he dozes off to the sound of Sanji’s morning routine.

And for this moment, the world is just Usopp and he’s two boys. Nothing more and nothing less.
